A Grand Slam for a Great Cause: The Victoria HarbourCats Foundation’s Second Annual Charity Slo-Pitch Game

Updated: Jul 24

VICTORIA, BC - On a beautiful July 21st, 2024, the Victoria HarbourCats Foundation hosted their much-anticipated second annual charity slo-pitch game, and it was a day to remember! With mild weather and plenty of excitement in the air, the event was a perfect blend of sportsmanship, community spirit, and charitable giving.

This year’s matchup featured two exceptional teams: the Victoria First Responders and the Hall of Famers. Fans from all over Victoria came out to cheer, with many eagerly anticipating a thrilling game and a chance to support a wonderful cause.

From the first pitch, it was clear that both teams were ready to give it their all. The First Responders, made up of local heroes from the police, fire, and medical services, were a formidable force. They played with a mix of passion and determination, demonstrating just how much they care about the community they serve.

On the other side, the Hall of Famers were equally impressive. The game was closely contested, and fans were on the edge of their seats as the score fluctuated on the jumbotron throughout the match.

Ultimately, it was the Hall of Famers who emerged victorious, securing a 9-6 win over the First Responders.

Following the exciting game, the action continued with a thrilling home run derby. Players from both teams took their turns at the plate, aiming to clear the fences and impress the spectators. The derby was a huge hit, with several impressive home runs and plenty of good-natured competition.

The real winner of the day was the Victoria HarbourCats Foundation, which is dedicated to supporting underprivileged children through financial aid for sports registration and equipment. The proceeds from the charity slo-pitch game and the home run derby will go directly to this important cause, helping to ensure that every child has the opportunity to experience the joy of sports.

The Foundation’s commitment is providing financial assistance to children who might otherwise be unable to participate in sports. By organizing events like this, we strive to make a tangible difference in the community and fostering a love for sports among the younger generation.

Plans are already in the works to make the third annual charity slo-pitch game even bigger and better, with more teams, more excitement, and, of course, more opportunities to support the children who will benefit from the proceeds.

For everyone who attended, volunteered, or supported the event in any way, thank you! Your enthusiasm and generosity help make the Victoria HarbourCats Foundation’s mission possible, and we can’t wait to see you all again next year for another day of fun, community, and giving back.
