The Victoria HarbourCats Foundation, based in Victoria, British Columbia, was established with a primary mission to support youth baseball and softball initiatives. Founded by Richard Michaels, the foundation aimed to make these sports more accessible to a diverse range of youth, by focusing on fundraising events, gaining considerable community support and financial backing. With these resources, sponsorships and community partners, the foundation made various youth baseball and softball programs viable options to underprivileged youth across the Victoria and Nanaimo areas.
Over the years, the foundation's impact on the community has been profound. Many young athletes participating in local baseball and softball have experienced personal growth, increased self-confidence, and a stronger sense of belonging due to the Foundation's financial support. Beyond individual players, the Foundation has fostered community engagement, bringing families and sports enthusiasts together to support a shared cause.
As the Victoria HarbourCats Foundation continues to grow, it expands its reach to impact an increasing number of young athletes. Future aspirations include partnerships with more sponsors and community partners, as well as other organizations to create a more sustainable, long-term impact on youth sports. Richard Michaels' dedication, combined with the passionate efforts of the Foundation's team and the support of the Victoria HarbourCats' organization and fans, has established the Victoria HarbourCats Foundation as a beacon of hope for young athletes. Their ongoing commitment to empowering youth through baseball and softball initiatives solidifies their position as a vital force for positive change in the community.
Helping local youth be involved in sport
The HarbourCats Foundation is proud to support initiatives for encouraging youth in sport in the Greater Victoria and Nanaimo areas
In 2017, Richard Michaels, a passionate baseball enthusiast and a member of the ownership group of the Victoria HarbourCats, had a vision of making a positive impact on the lives of young athletes in the community. Inspired by the success of the Victoria HarbourCats, a collegiate level summer baseball club competing in the West Coast League, Richard saw an opportunity to extend their reach beyond the field and create lasting change for local youth. Thus, the Victoria HarbourCats Foundation was born with goal: to help underprivileged youth participate in local baseball and softball.
