What You Learn
At our baseball academy, we focus on teaching the essential fundamentals of the game, ensuring each player develops a strong foundation. Our coaching staff emphasizes core skills such as proper hitting techniques, fielding mechanics, and base running strategies. We also prioritize teamwork and sportsmanship, encouraging players to support one another as they grow and improve. By breaking down the fundamentals in a clear, engaging way, we ensure players are not only ready for competitive play but also develop a lifelong love for the sport.
Batting and Hitting Fundamentals
• Grip and Stance: Teach the correct grip for holding the bat and emphasize a balanced stance with feet shoulder-width apart and knees slightly bent. • Swing Mechanics: Focus on a smooth, controlled swing, starting with good hand-eye coordination to make contact with the ball.
Throwing and Catching
• Throwing Mechanics: Teach the proper grip for throwing and emphasize a fluid arm motion with a strong follow-through. Ensure they step toward the target with their opposite foot for accuracy. • Catching: Encourage soft hands and proper glove positioning—fingers up for catching high balls and fingers down for low balls.
Base Running and Sliding
• Running the Bases: Show them how to run in a straight line, making sharp turns at each base, and always running through first base. • Sliding: Introduce sliding only when they’re comfortable, emphasizing safe techniques like the feet-first slide to avoid injury.
Fielding, Teamwork, and Basic Rules
• Positioning and Communication: Teach the basic positions on the field and the importance of staying aware and communicating with teammates during plays. • Basic Game Rules: Explain key rules like 3 outs per inning, the strike zone, and the difference between balls and strikes, helping them understand how the game flows.

Tyler Boldt
As a member of the Victoria Mariners, Tyler won the 2010 Western Canadian Championships. He further played college baseball at Rainy River Community College in Minnesota, USA, in 2014. From 2016 to 2017, Tyler served as an instructor at Belmont Baseball Academy.
